Gathering Around the Christmas Tree

I'm neck deep in final edits for my upcoming release, Exposed. But I did manage to check a few  things off my Christmas to-do list. One batch of cookies baked. Some gifts bought. Tree trimmed.

Decorating our Christmas tree is one of my favorite holiday traditions. Each year we venture forth to the tree lot to select the perfect tree. Now the house is rich with the scent of pine, warm with the soft glow of lights, and it feels like Christmas. The ornaments that grace the branches are the closest I can claim to a collection. I'm not a big collector of things, but every year I try to add a new ornament or two. Each year I unwrap them and hang them up. Some come with special memories, some were gifts, and some simply caught my eye. Some I even crafted myself.

“The best of all gifts around any Christmas tree: the presence of a happy family all wrapped up in each other.”

Do you have any special holiday collections?

Ooo, pretty! I love your tree! And those ornaments are really nice. All I have is a little tree and a handful of special ornaments - the three little wooden ones that look like children that were on our tree when I was growing up, a few the Kid made in school, etc. I have a box of my grandmother's handmade ball ornaments but they're too big for the tree we have. Still, it's nice to have them. =o)

You know...I should comment and then take the ten minutes necessary to clear off the side table and haul out the cactus tree. Then the tree would be up, waiting for those presents I haven't bought yet. I should do that. *nods* This is the last year for the cactus tree, though we may incorporate it outside next year. Sprout will be almost 2 next Christmas so we'll go back to a traditional (if fake) tree (allergies) and I'll drag out all the ornaments we've collected over the years. I'm sure the dogs and cat will be amused as well. LOL

Pretty tree, Karyn. And I admire you for putting a big one up! Some traditions should stay.

Thanks, B.E. Ornaments that hold the most memories are the best kind. Maybe your grandmother's ornaments would look lovely in as a centerpiece in a vintage glass bowl?

Thanks, JB. My daughter is a bird fan. There are many bird themed ornaments hanging in the branches.

Thanks, Silver. I have a confession. I usually put up 2 trees. The other goes in the dining room and is decorated with every ornament my kids have ever made. It's such fun to see them every year. I love the idea of an unconventional tree. I definitely think it should find a place in your celebrations.

Have fun being grandma this Christmas! How exciting! Any next year...look out. You'll have lots of laughs safeguarding your tree!
