Trying uncomfortable things

Next month, I'm leading a "Muzzle Your Inner Critic So That You Can Hear Your  Muse" at the Florida Creativity Weekend.  I'm excited about workshop, but I'm also terrified.

It's part of my "trying uncomfortable things" kick.

Here are a couple of things I've tackled:

I tried Zumba. I loved it! Unfortunately my feet didn't, which is one of the reasons I've been wearing a night splint since December…sigh.

It took a lot of tongue-biting (you have NO idea) but I got myself (and my dog) through a Therapy Dog Certification course.

I've also tried a couple of painting classes. I had a GREAT time, but there's a reason I don't paint.

Evidence below:

This is my pal Kim Karalius. She's a much better painter. Her debut novel, LOVE FORTUNES AND OTHER DISASTERS will be out in May.

And next month, while at the Florida Creativity Weekend I'm taking an all-day Improv Acting class. What was I thinking?

Tell me Killer Friends: Have you ever taken an acting class? What uncomfortable things have you tried? What do you want to try?

It looks like a wonderful weekend and a great sounding workshop. I think most people are holding back from doing something new they want to try. Good for you for doing what scares you and helping people out at the same time!

I haven't taken an acting class but I enjoyed being in plays in high school. There is local theatre group in my city that puts on these wonderful productions and I've always wished I had the nerve to try out, for just a small part. Some day. The other is yoga. Which is ridiculous because yoga classes are as plentiful as coffee shops. But I'm SO uncoordinated, it's not even funny. Add in those extra few (cough) pounds I've acquired and it's all messing with my head. But I should just go ahead and sign up!

I love the painting!

Good for you!

I think my days of trying new things have passed. Unless it's taking a road I've never taken before. Or leaping into self-publishing. I already spent a lot of time jumping off into space and hoping. "Look at me! I can fly... :splat:" It's always been a helluva ride on the way down, though - regardless of the outcomes.

And I love your paintings, too. So you aren't Vermeer. You're having fun and creating pretty things. Go you.

I'm really looking forward to the weekend, Karyn.

LOL, yoga is constantly on my list…I'm not only uncoordinated, but inflexible too. I'm pretty sure it's why dvds were invented. ;-)

B.E. -- Self-publishing, and the learning curve that goes with it, is a pretty uncomfortable undertaking, imho. Good for you!
