Future Wishes

I recently listened to a conversation between two older women about how much they dislike one of their "friends".  I asked why, if they found her to be such a drain, they still socialized with her.

Their answer was an excuse.

At least I thought it was.

I sincerely hope that when I'm seventy-five I won't be putting up with that kind of bullshit anymore. I've made an effort to cut down on that kind of thing, but I still have a lot to do.

Which got me to thinking about what other things I wish for my future self. Here a couple I came up with.

1) That I'll actually believe I sort of know what I'm doing when it comes to writing a book

2) That I'll have trained myself to stop saying, "I'm sorry" right after I say "no" -- I'm working on it.

3) That I'll be the person my dog thinks I am.  ;-)

Tell me Killer Friends: What are YOUR future wishes?

The actual answer is probably that if they stop being friends with her, then who will they have to gripe about? ;o)

Smart woman. Cut the bullshit out of your life - as much as you can anyway.

Great future wishes! I think you're already the kind of person your dog thinks you are. And I definitely believe you know what you're doing with the writing thing. But yeah, you have to get there, too.

I have a tough time envisioning living another thirty years. I hope that if I do, I'm still living my life exactly the way I want to, here on the hillside. And I hope I haven't turned into some kind of animal hoarder by then.

I love that you called them on it. I agree with B.E., I think you're that person already too. I hear you about the no thing. I'm trying to just say no, without offering an explanation or qualifier or apology. It's hard!

My future wishes for myself? I agree, I want to feel like I know what I'm doing when it comes to writing. I've got 25 years to make it happen. 2) I want to be a positive, happy, encouraging person no matter my circumstances. 3) I would REALLY like to be spending my winters in Hawaii. Which would make the whole happy, positive thing a lot easier, but if I have to do it from a box under a bridge so be it.
