Goals and Resolutions

Well, we're one week in on 2016.  Time for those resolutions to kick in, if you made any, and for this year's goals to get set. 

I don't usually do resolutions. I do goals.  I know, I know, same diff.  But it's a mental thing for me.  I sit down at the beginning of a year and RESOLVE to do something, I fail.  I set up goals at the beginning of the year and work toward them, and more often than not, I achieve what I set out to do. 

I did make one resolution this year.  I will buy and read one 'new-to-me' indie author a month.  That one, if I make it a goal, will fall by the wayside.  As a resolution, it has a better shot.

My goals for the year are pretty simple.

1)  Be active every day.  In some way.  It doesn't have to be formal exercise.  Although, I have been formally exercising for the past few days (well, dancing and formal exercises in five minute intervals).  Taking a walk works.  Heavy duty cleaning works.  As long as I'm moving and putting those muscles to use, maybe getting the heart pumping a little harder than my usual sedentary rate, it counts.

2) Publish 4 books this year.  Three are already written, so there's just editing, etc. to make them publishable. The other won't be published until November, so I have plenty of time to finish it.

3) Finish 2 first drafts this year.  Like I said, I already have one partway written, but I need to find the time to write the other from start to THE END.

4) Read at least 70 books.  The 12 indie-author books will count toward this.  I read 77 last year, so this should be a doable goal.

All of them should be doable.  That's the thing about goals.  They should probably make you stretch yourself a little, but they should be realistic.  I can do these things without killing myself. Making a goal like 'lose 10 lbs' would set me up for failure.  If I lose 10 lbs by exercising every day, awesome.  If not, as long as I can be more active, I'll be happy.  (My squonky parts ache worse if I'm an inactive person.)

Impressive goals! I can't wait to see how you do with them. (Guessing you'll rock them all.)
